What is Yen Tsai Tea?
After the tea leaves are bitten by small green leafhoppers, a "salivary effect" is produced, triggering a charming honey fragrance. The processed Yen Tsai tea has a unique fruity honey flavor, making it a rare and exquisite tea.
When brewing Yen Tsai tea, do not use boiling water at 100°C. The water temperature should be around 90°C (boiling water from a water dispenser can also be used) to avoid destroying the unique proteins in Yen Tsai tea and causing a bitter taste.
Steep the tea for about 50-60 seconds before pouring out the tea liquor. For subsequent infusions, increase the steeping time by about 20-30 seconds per infusion.

The tea liquor is a golden yellow, crystal clear and bright, reflecting its pure quality and smooth, refreshing taste

The tea leaves unfold into slender, curled shapes, displaying a vibrant yellow sheen with delicate red edges, a sign of high-quality craftsmanship and precise fermentation.

【Natural Honey Aroma · Insect-Bitten Rarity · Clean Mountain Terroir】
The Shanlinxi "Chan-zai" Tea is a masterpiece of natural alchemy. In the high-altitude forests of Shanlinxi, a tiny insect called the Green Leafhopper bites the tea leaves. To heal itself, the plant undergoes a chemical transformation that results in a profound honey-like sweetness and fruity fragrance that cannot be replicated by any artificial means.
The Miracle of "Chan-zai": The term "Chan-zai" refers to the specific flavor profile of tea leaves that have been "attacked" by leafhoppers. This process requires an entirely pesticide-free environment, as these insects can only survive in clean, ecological gardens.
Natural Honey & Fruit Notes: Unlike standard Oolongs, Chan-zai tea possesses a distinct, nectar-like sweetness and a scent reminiscent of ripe stone fruits and wildflowers.
Shanlinxi Forest Rhyme: Combined with the high-altitude (1,200m–1,600m) cool climate of Shanlinxi, this tea also carries a refreshing "Cold Rhyme" (冷韻) and a silky texture.
Hand-Picked Selection: Only the leaves successfully bitten by the leafhoppers are carefully harvested to ensure the most concentrated honey fragrance.
SGS Certified: 100% authentic Taiwanese origin with guaranteed zero pesticide detection (N.D.), confirming the ecological purity required to produce this variety.
Aroma: A captivating bouquet of wild honey, ripe peach, and orchid.
Flavor: Exceedingly smooth and velvety. The taste is naturally sweet with a "thick" mouthfeel. It lacks the sharpness of unfermented green teas, offering instead a warm, honey-water resonance.
Liquor: A brilliant, glowing amber-gold or honey-yellow.
Origin: Shanlinxi High Mountain Region, Nantou County, Taiwan.
Craftsmanship: To bring out the "Honey Scent," this tea is typically medium-oxidized. This level of fermentation allows the complex sugars created by the leafhopper bite to fully develop into that signature honey profile.
Hot Brew: Use water at 90°C–95°C. The honey notes are best extracted with slightly hotter water. Steep for 50–60 seconds for the first infusion.
Cold Brew: This is a fan-favorite for cold brewing. Place 5g of tea in 500ml of cold water and refrigerate for 8 hours. The result is a smooth, nectar-like drink that is naturally sweet and incredibly refreshing.
Q1: Is "Chan-zai" tea the same as "Oriental Beauty"? A1: They are cousins! Both rely on the Green Leafhopper bite. However, Shanlinxi Chan-zai is grown at a much higher altitude than traditional Oriental Beauty, giving it a more refined "mountain rhyme" and a cleaner, crisp finish compared to the heavy richness of Oriental Beauty.
Q2: Does it contain real honey? A2: No. The honey flavor is 100% natural. It is the plant's biological response to the leafhopper. Because it is naturally sweet, it is an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy sweet flavors without added sugar.
Q3: Why is this tea often rarer than standard Oolong? A3: Because we cannot use pesticides in these gardens, the yield is entirely dependent on nature. Some years the leafhoppers are abundant, and some years they are not. This makes every batch of Chan-zai a limited-edition gift from the mountain.
